Organizing A Tiny Laundry Room

With 6 kids and 2 adults, we have a lot of laundry.  We also have a tiny walk through laundry room located just off of the kitchen with front loader machines.  I have wanted to do something to improve the functionality of the space for 3 years now but the birth of 2 children slowed the process down.  It was hard coming up with a project that I could complete and use.  The first thing I did was knock down the existing shelf and clothing rod.  I installed two pieces of ply-board on opposing walls so that when I put up rod holders the screws would not pull through the sheet rock.  I then installed 6 closet polls as shelves for laundry baskets.

Now I have a place for 8 laundry baskets (a basket each labeled for each person) and a place to sort.

To replace the the shelf and rod I installed sorting pockets behind each door and hung a hanger hook on the front of the door.  Now I can reach everything and everything has a place.  I also took the old shelf and installed it above the door to have a place for all of those seldom used appliances.

I also added a little art to inspire me.

Some times doing the laundry just makes little bodies tired.  There is a lot to do in this busy home of mine but it is becoming more efficient one corner at a time.
